Got the club set up in the first round that I played with it and haven’t looked back since. TaylorMade may have gone back in time to the R name to go forward, but with the R15 driver they have a quality driver that will be a strong contender for the number r15 taylormade sales position.
The SLDR driver may not have been the most commercially successful driver TaylorMade taylormase ever done, but it did herald their new philosophy of low forward centre r15 taylormade gravity CG and low spin for more distance. At least they are going back to what they know works and more importantly sells, even if at first glance there is not much visual difference in the crown graphics from the R11 driver to the R15 taylormade and its plain white head. I have the weights in the middle r15 taylormade the moment but I will play around with them over the next few weeks to optimise my shot shape. The sound throughout was really good without being too high pitched or shouty, which some TaylorMade drivers have been in the past. It was just ok for me. Splitting weights between the heel and r15 taylormade increases the club’s forgiveness; moving both weights in the same direction adds shot-shape bias; and placing them both in the middle produces the fastest ball speed. I was using a Callaway FTi Squarehead which i could smash quite well but wasn’t always forgiving. The stock stiff shaft seemed to perform better than stock Speeder 57 stiff in my SLDR, offering more stability and a stronger flight.
